As part of the Volkswagen Group Art4All programme and to mark the special exhibition *Ruin and Intoxication: Berlin 1910–1930*, the Neue Nationalgalerie invites you to a free concert featuring the musicians of the Moka Efti Oktett, who are also known from the television series *Babylon Berlin*.

Many of the Neue Nationalgalerie’s key works date from the Weimar Republic and capture the unique spirit of that era. This is particularly true of the works currently on display in the ‘Ruin and Exhilaration’ exhibition.

In Berlin, the music of those years is still ever-present. Yet very few acts manage to bring this tense and contradictory era to life in a way that feels fresh and contemporary – without the artificial crackle of vinyl.

The Moka Efti Octet, emerging from the sonic universe of the Moka Efti Orchestra, distils its characteristic sound into a compact and immediate form. The smaller line-up places greater emphasis on the interplay between the individual musicians, thereby opening up new sonic possibilities. Yet the stylistic roots remain clearly recognisable: the typical blend of swing, jazz and chanson for which the Moka Efti Orchestra is renowned also characterises the octet. The result is a fresh perspective on the familiar sound: focused, nuanced and delivered with particular intensity.

Concert:

This is a smaller line-up of the ‘Moka Efti Orchestra’, known from the ‘Babyon Berlin’ series.

The event is being held as part of the currently hugely popular exhibition ‘Ruin & Rausch…’ and here’s the special feature: on Thursday, from 4 pm to 8 pm, admission to this and other exhibitions at the Neue Nationalgalerie is free.
