When does summer arrive?

Every year at the same time: the summer uncovers the most beautiful aspects of Berlin! We have selected the best tips for you: from street food to ice cream, bathing to beach bars. With sand in your shoes in the street café around the corner – when the Berlin summer becomes the greatest pastime in the world, you will find the Berliners outside: in cafés, beer gardens, beach bars or at street food stalls at the old Berlin market halls.

Summer in Berlin: the long summer days by the lakes, and in the parks and gardens of the city. Dance with us! The months from May to September are packed with festivals, street parties, fairs and concerts – all of course under the clear summer sky.

Where to go in those sunny summer days?

Discovering all corners of Berlin on your own – it’s possible. And certainly with our bicycle tours through the city’s neighbourhoods. Alternatively, you can go on a guided tour. Or you can head off to one of the most beautiful destinations in Berlin and the surrounding area.

Would you prefer to enjoy the day in an even more relaxed way? Make yourself comfortable in one of our ice cream cafés or at a beer garden. You can also have a picnic in the Berlin parks and BBQ in designated areas.

Plunge into the water: bathing lakes and boat trips

Spree and Landwehr Canal, Müggelsee and Wannsee: Berlin is a green city with many lakes and rivers. This is why Berliners love being near the water above all else. The best way to get to know the Berlin lake landscape is on a boat trip. Or you can sail along directly past the tourist attractions. And even though Berlin is only a stone’s throw away from the sea, you can pack up your bathing suit and travel to one of the many lakes in and around Berlin. Our bathing map will show you the shortest routes to the most beautiful lakes.

What's going on in Summer time?

Open air concerts, open-air theatre, street festivals and festivals: Berlin is in high season all summer long. In addition to the big events, music festivals and concerts on the open-air stages such as the Waldbühne and the Parkbühne Wuhlheide, the smaller Kiezfeste also make the Berlin summer a special experience.

The taste of summer

In summer, life in Berlin happens outdoors – with the first rays of sunshine, the cafés and restaurants set up their tables and chairs on pavements and plazas. Take a seat to relax in the shade of a tree in a Berlin beer garden. Enjoy a spectacular view across the city from the roof decks on summer evenings.

Add your voice to the calls of “Berlin ahoy!” in the beach bars, your toes in the sand and the Spree at your fingertips. The ice cream parlours offer the most delicious new creations for every new summer season.
