The summer months in Berlin are full of festivals, street parties and concerts - in the open air and sometimes even for free. Look forward to free open-air cinema and dance evenings, free comedy, a club feeling without admission and concerts under the stars, DJ sets, theatre in the countryside and many other free open-air events.
Free open-air concerts
In summer, music plays everywhere in Berlin. In parks and on street corners, in railway stations, in public squares and on the city's many bridges, there are places where music is allowed. Many cafés are currently inviting musicians to entertain guests in the open air. lingering for a while slows you down and puts a smile on your face. Here are a few tips on where you can regularly listen to music for free in Berlin.
Summer feeling with top DJs at Berlin Beats

Berlin club culture meets art at Berlin Beats: the museum garden at Hamburger Bahnhof is transformed into an open-air stage for top international DJs and local electronic music stars, with street food and drinks from Restaurant Konstantin on site.
At the open house kick-off, admission to the museum is free of charge until 10 pm, on the other evenings until 8 pm with a valid ticket

Musical summer in the park

In summer, music plays in Berlin's parks and sometimes on accessible rooftops. For over 35 years, the Neukölln concert series "Dein Sommer im Park" has been bringing concerts, workshops and much more outdoors.
In July, free concerts are played every Sunday in Körnerpark. A colourful mix of different styles is played in front of the gallery, promising a good time.

In August, the series moves to the roof of the Kulturbunker. From 2 to 23 August, you can listen to free concerts here every Saturday from 6 pm. As a warm-up, workshops will be organised from 4 pm, with spraying, drumming, rapping and introductions to different cultures.

September continues with swing, reggae and more. The park near the Ritterburg playground will be transformed into a stage on Sundays from 5 pm. Workshops to join in are offered from 3 pm.

Intercultural "airing out" in the Schlüterhof

Under the motto "Culture for all", the Humbold Forum organises an open-air festival every summer in the historic Schlüterhof: Durchlüften is an open, communal festival with music, dance and culinary experiences. For twelve evenings, 24 live acts and 12 DJs take you on an intercultural sound journey

Music in the park on the Schlossinsel Köpenick

Pack a picnic and blanket - and enjoy live music in front of a castle backdrop in the countryside: KuKuKuk e.v. has been organising free open-air music events for over a decade. Voluntary donations in favour of the musicians are welcome.

Jazz in the open air

- "Jazz am Kaisersteg" brings free open-air concerts directly to the Spree - with surprising sounds and an urban atmosphere.

- Seven federal states, one evening, many colours of sound: At "Jazz in the Ministerial Gardens", modern jazz meets political address - in the open air and in the centre of Berlin. Stroll from garden to garden and discover new music - each country brings its own flavour.

- At "Jazz in the Garden" with the Hugo Fernández Quartet, spirituality, pop-rock, world music and jazz merge into an extraordinary concert in the museum garden of the Jewish Museum.

Dancing in Monbijoupark

- Swing, tango, waltz and salsa: when the weather is nice, you can shake a leg in the beach bar at Monbijoupark. Dance in Monbijoupark in the open air and directly on the banks of the Spree.

- Dance into happiness: the "Summer of Dance" in Volkspark Friedrichshain offers swing and Lindy Hop for everyone every Sunday - free, outdoors and great fun.

- Dancing among the roses: Argentinian tango meets Berlin summer romance at the milonga in the rose garden - with an introduction, live music and free dancing until sunset.

Cinema pleasure meets education - watch films for free & outdoors

Campus Democracy in the courtyard of the Stasi headquarters is once again hosting a free open-air cinema this summer. For four weeks, you can watch selected documentaries and feature films on the topics of the GDR past, state security, resistance and coming to terms with the past.
To kick things off, representatives of the Campus will give insights into their work. Following the films, discussions with filmmakers, experts and contemporary witnesses as well as a supporting programme with exhibitions and guided tours invite you to delve deeper.
If it rains, you can switch to the Babylon cinema . Silent films have been screened in what is probably the city's most beautiful cinema since 1929. The tradition continues with the Saturday silent film series at midnight. According to the motto zero o'clock - zero euros, you can indulge in free film enjoyment here.

More cinema for free & outside

- The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung invites you to the free Hofkino.Berlin cinema in the courtyard of Franz-Mehring-Platz 1. Political documentary films are shown, accompanied by talks with interesting discussion partners.

- From 5 to 14 September 2025, Kranzler Eck once again invites you to a free open-air cinema. Every day from 7 pm, visitors can expect a varied film programme with German and international highlights from recent years - from action to romance to children's films.

- Experience neighbourhood flair at the balcony cinema in August on Cecilienplatz in Hellersdorf. From 7pm, drinks and food from the barbecue are available for a small price. Of course you can bring your own picnic, blankets or folding chairs.

Sing along to free karaoke in Mauerpark

The Sunday karaoke in Mauerpark is a real Berlin classic: up to 1,000 music fans meet here on Sunday afternoons at the amphitheatre to listen to others at the Bearpit karaoke. You can even sing along yourself. Incidentally, the open-air karaoke was invented by bicycle courier Joe Hatchiban. Since 2009, he has been travelling around Berlin with his mobile sound system to help people overcome their stage fright. Because of course, everyone who dares to take to the stage in front of the packed ranks gets a thunderous round of applause.

Fête de la Musique at the beginning of summer

Every year at the beginning of summer on 21 June, the whole of Berlin is a stage: music is played on around 100 stages throughout the city at the beginning of summer. At the Fête de la Musique , amateurs and professionals play in public streets, squares and parks. You can hear pretty much all genres of music.

State opera for all on Bebelplatz

Christian Thielemann brings Beethoven to Bebelplatz with the Staatskapelle Berlin at the Staatsoper für alle. In May 2026, Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 6 in F major op. 68 Pastorale and the Egmont Overture op. 84 will be on the programme at the annual open-air concert.
