The summer months in Berlin are packed with festivals, street parties and concerts – all in the open air and some of them even free of charge. Look forward to free open-air cinema and dance nights, free comedy, a club atmosphere with no entry fee, and concerts under the stars, DJ sets, theatre in the park and many more free open-air events.

Free open-air concerts

In summer, music is playing everywhere in Berlin. In parks and on street corners, in stations, in public squares and on the city’s many bridges, there are places where busking is permitted. Many cafés are currently inviting musicians to entertain guests in the open air. Stopping for a moment helps you unwind and puts a smile on your face. Here are a few tips on where you can regularly listen to music for free in Berlin.

At Berlin Beats, Berlin’s club culture meets art: the museum garden of the Hamburger Bahnhof becomes an open-air stage for top international DJs and local electronic music stars, with street food and drinks from Restaurant Konstantin available right on site.

On the opening night of the Open House, entry to the museum is free until 10 pm; on other evenings, it’s accessible until 8 pm with a valid ticket.

A musical summer in the park

In summer, music fills Berlin’s parks and sometimes even accessible rooftops. For over 35 years, the Neukölln concert series “Dein Sommer im Park” has been bringing concerts, workshops and much more out into the open air.

  • In June , free concertsare held regularly on Sundays in Körnerpark. A colourful mix of different musical styles is performed in front of the gallery, promising a great atmosphere.
  • In July, the programme continues at Park am Buschkrug (near Hannemannstraße 21, Britz / U-Blaschkoallee) with workshops and other events.
  • And in August, the park near the Ritterburg playground will become a stage. Alongside children’s theatre in the afternoon, you can look forward to concerts ranging from pop and world music to jazz.

Under the motto ‘Culture for All’, the Humboldt Forum hosts an open-air festival every summer in the historic Schlüterhof: ‘Durchlüften’ is an open, community-based festival featuring music, dance and culinary experiences. Over twelve evenings, 24 live acts and 12 DJs will take you on an intercultural musical journey

Pack a picnic and a blanket – and enjoy live music against the backdrop of the palace in the countryside: for over a decade, KuKuKuk e.V. has been hosting free open-air music events. They take place every Wednesday at 6 pm. Voluntary donations to support the musicians are welcome.

  • ‘Jazz am Kaisersteg’brings free open-air concerts right by the River Spree – with surprising sounds and an urban atmosphere.
     
  • Seven federal states, one evening, a wealth of musical colours: at“Jazz in the Minister’s Gardens”on 9 October 2026, modern jazz meets a political setting – under the open sky and right in the heart of Berlin. Stroll from garden to garden and discover new music – each state brings its own unique flavour.
     
  • At this year’s“Jazz in the Garden”, the Nigun Quartet will be performing on 5 July from 11 am to 1 pm in the museum garden of the Jewish Museum.

Dance your heart out in Berlin’s parks and gardens

  • Swing, tango, waltz and salsa: weather permitting, you can hit the dance floor every day from May to September 2026 at the Strandbar in Monbijoupark. Dance in Monbijoupark under the open sky, right on the banks of the Spree. Depending on the dance evening, the event starts between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm; on Saturdays from 2 pm and on Sundays from 4 pm.
     
  • Dance your way to happiness: Atthe ‘Summer of Dance’in Volkspark Friedrichshain, every Sunday is all about swing, Charleston and Lindy Hop for everyone – free, outdoors and great fun: swing from 2 pm to 3 pm, Charleston from 3 pm to 4 pm and Lindy Hop from 4 pm to 5 pm
     
  • Southern Italy in the open air: At‘La Paranza del Tempelhofer Feld’, every Thursday from 6.30 pm, people dance, sing and celebrate – all in the spirit of Neapolitan joie de vivre. The meeting point is at the Kulturcontainer, right by the S-Tempelhof entrance.
     
  • Dancing amongst the roses: At the Milonga in the Rose Garden, Argentine tango meets Berlin summer romance – with an introduction, live music and open dancing, this year on 16 August and 13 September, starting at 3.30 pm on both occasions. Open dancing from 4.30 pm to 7 pm

Cinema fun meets education – watch films for free & outdoors

The Campus for Democracy in the courtyard of the Stasi headquarters. Campus für Demokratie is once again hosting free open-air cinema this summer. From 3 to 27 August 2026, you can watch a selection of documentaries and feature films exploring the history of the GDR, the Stasi, resistance and coming to terms with the past.

What makes it special: before many screenings, there are guided tours of the site, followed by discussions with experts, filmmakers or even eyewitnesses. Admission is free, no booking is required, and the venue is the Stasi headquarters: Campus for Democracy at Ruschestraße 103.

  • If it rains, you can head to the Babylon instead. Silent films have been shown in what is arguably the city’s most beautiful cinema since 1929. This tradition continues with the Saturday series ‘Silent Film at Midnight’. Under the motto ‘Midnight – zero euros ’, you can indulge in some free film entertainment here.

  • The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation invites you to its free ‘Hofkino.Berlin’. Political documentaries are screened, accompanied by discussions with fascinating panellists.
     
  • The Kranzler Eck also regularly hosts free open-air cinema screenings. Look forward to a varied film programme featuring German and international highlights from recent years – ranging from action and romance to children’s films.
     
  • Experience the local neighbourhood atmosphere at the balcony cinema in August on Cecilienplatz in Hellersdorf. From 7 pm, drinks and barbecue food are available at reasonable prices. You’re welcome to bring your own picnic, as well as blankets or folding chairs.

  • Laughter, wonder, street art: at the international street theatre festival ‘Berlin lacht!, Berlin becomes an open-air theatre. Look forward to acrobats, clowns, music, puppets, fire shows, dance and a market – all free and full of life

Feasting, shopping and dancing on Gorkistraße: at the monthly Gorkistraße Festival in Tegel, the pedestrian zone becomes a lively stage – with street food, live music and activities for children.

Sunday karaoke in Mauerpark is a true Berlin classic . Up to 1,000 music lovers gather here on Sunday afternoons at the amphitheatre to listen to others at Bearpit Karaoke. You can even join in yourself. Incidentally, this open-air karaoke was invented by the cycle courier Joe Hatchiban. Since 2009, he’s been touring Berlin with his mobile sound system to help people overcome their stage fright. Because, of course, everyone who dares to take to the stage in front of the packed stands receives a thunderous round of applause.

Fête de la Musique to mark the start of summer

Every year at the start of summer, the whole of Berlin becomes a stage: music is played on around 100 stages across the city to mark the start of summer. At the Fête de la Musique , amateur and professional musicians perform on public streets, squares and in parks. You can hear just about every genre of music.

State Opera for All at Bebelplatz

At the State Opera for All, Christian Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Berlin will bring Beethoven to Bebelplatz. The programme for this annual, major open-air concert in May 2026 features Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68 (Pastoral) and the Egmont Overture, Op. 84.
