When temperatures rise, Berlin shows its most refreshing side – by the water. Nestled between the hustle and bustle of the city and green riverbanks, the Spree, Havel and Dahme rivers, along with around 80 lakes and swimming spots, invite you to take a short break right in the heart of the city.
With the new Berlin Water Atlas, you can easily discover all this variety in one place. Whether you’re looking for the nearest swimming spot on the spur of the moment, planning a day out by the water or wanting to discover new favourite spots, the digital map shows you where it’s worth taking a dip, switching off or getting active.
A total of 5,847 hectares of the city’s area is covered by water. In summer, 39 swimming spots invite you to cool off, ranging from popular classics to quieter spots off the beaten track.
What’s more, you’ll find everything you need for your day by the water on the map. Discover restaurants with lake views, accommodation right on the shore, or set off on your next trip from a suitable boat hire centre. Mooring points, launch sites and jetties are also clearly marked, making planning particularly easy.
Berlin can always be experienced in a new light from the water. More than 50 islands lie in the city’s waters, and over 600 bridges connect its banks. And if you look closely, you’ll even discover a little piece of Venice – twice, in fact – on the Havel and the Müggelspree.
The new Berlin Waterways Atlas will guide you through your active holiday in the city. Zoom in on the various districts, discover specific activities or let yourself be inspired to find new favourite spots by the water.
Please note: The digital Water Atlas is currently only available in German.
