Our city of the future

What will life be like in the city of the future? This is the question explored by the special exhibition “SuperCity 3000. Our City of the Future” at the German Museum of Technology. What makes the exhibition special is that it was developed by children for children: sixty children have conceived and built their visions for their city of the future.

This has resulted in imaginative city models – the centrepiece of the exhibition. Building on this, innovative projects, technical prototypes and architectural designs are on display, reflecting the children’s ideas for the future.

Designing cities well: an urgent challenge

With this special exhibition, we are addressing a highly topical and socially relevant issue. Urban design is an urgent challenge and shapes every aspect of people’s lives. Already today, 90 per cent of children in Germany live in urban areas; by 2050, this will account for over 70 per cent of the world’s population.

The future is what we make of it

The central message of the exhibition is: the future is open; we can help shape it! It is particularly important to take the voices of the younger generation seriously – their ideas, fears and hopes must be incorporated into urban planning. We aim to bring the debate on urban development to a wider public and encourage all visitors to help build the city of the future.

An accompanying programme for school groups and families complements the exhibition.

  • Duration: 27 March 2026 to 27 June 2027
