Machines have transformed the way people work: work has become easier, and production more efficient. Experience the driving forces of the Industrial Revolution in action! The Historical Workshop offers hands-on insights into 150 years of industrialization.

In the Historical Workshop of the German Museum of Technology, machines hiss and creak, and metal shavings fly. Here, you can see the most important machines from a metal tool factory around 1900 in action. The machines in this

exhibition area can be used to manufacture metal parts for other machines. Mechanical engineering was and remains the crown jewel of German industry. Every form of manufacturing and metalworking could be performed by such machines, whether drilling, sawing, turning, milling, grinding, or stamping. The regular demonstrations in the Historical Workshop use an eccentric press from around 1920 that stamps small metal plaques as souvenirs for visitors.
