Sugar is far more than the familiar sweetener, which is made from beet or pipe. In addition to household sugar, fruit sugar, glucose and milk sugar there are still countless others. Sugar is the most common biomolecule in the world without which there is no life. Sugar plays a central role in lively nature. Sugar is stored solar energy. All plants consist of the polymeric sugar cellulose and store energy mainly in the form of starch. Insects and crustaceans owe their shape to the sugar molecule chitin. Sugar is the basis of many special functions also in the human body. Since time immemorial, sugar has been used as a source of energy for human consumption. The information content of sugar compounds opens up new avenues in medicine.

In addition to the classical aspects of the former Zucker Museum (1904 to 2012 in Berlin-Wedding), which was devoted to the production, use and social history of cane sugar and sugar beet sugar, The now opened exhibition from many new perspectives.
