For centuries, the organ has been regarded as the queen of instruments—a symbol of European musical culture and the inspiration for countless compositions.

Its roots stretch back to ancient Greece: the general term organa for instruments evolved in the early modern period into the designation for “the organ” as the instrument par excellence.

We also encounter the organ time and again in art, for example in depictions of Saint Cecilia. Musician Gaby Bultmann and art historian Sabine Engel bring this fascinating connection between sound and image to life.
