The first novel about the famous artist couple Max and Mathilde Beckmann in exile

Marianne Ludes recounts the Beckmanns' life in a lively, entertaining, and exciting way: from deep love, sources of creative inspiration, and an unconventional friendship with art historian Erhard Göpel—a man who, on the one hand, acquired art on behalf of the Nazi regime, but on the other hand became a close friend of Beckmann.

The author pays particular tribute to Mathilde Beckmann, who was a violinist and singer but did not pursue her art after marrying Max Beckmann.

Trio mit Tiger gains particular depth through exclusive access to Mathilde Beckmann's previously unpublished diaries. They paint an impressive portrait of a woman whose influence on the painter's life and work has long been underestimated. “For me, it's about understanding – about really recognizing and comprehending the things that once happened,” says Marianne Ludes. The reading now offers guests the opportunity to learn more about the creation of the novel and to engage in conversation with Marianne Ludes.

About the author:
