They combine creativity and power and have become metaphors. They symbolize CREATION and FORMATION.
Hand Axe Ensemble- Roland Komitow – reeds
- Jörg Huke – trombone
- Andreas Willers – guitar
- Roland Fidezius – bass
- Christian Marien – drums
Just like this ensemble. A group of five soloists, committed to sending music, with its transcendent power, into every conceivable and unimaginable sphere.
Penetrating and carrying the audience along. Ready to receive!
In the beginning was sound, then the hand axe, and in the end there may be silence.
Perhaps…!?

GULF of BERLIN are five musicians plus a sound designer who are redefining the space between improvisation and composition.
What at first glance appears to be spontaneous sound development reveals itself as music that, while created in the moment, possesses an inner logic due to its unique arrangement.
Each individual acoustic voice is transformed through real-time electronic processing and fed back to the musicians as a mirror, so that the ensemble functions like a polyphonic collective: each band member reacts to an altered self.
This gives rise to soundscapes ranging from floating ambient textures to mountains of noise to the rhythms of prog-rock visionaries.
In the background, the radical spirit of the AACM resonates, while the spiritual fire of Albert Ayler flares up.
