About Jazz Week
Polish pianist, singer, and composer Ilona Damięcka is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary European jazz, and Jazz am Helmholtzplatz is delighted to present her at the Brotfabrik as part of Jazz Week. Today, she divides her time between Gdańsk and Berlin—both musically and geographically—and her playing combines virtuosic skill with sensitive, deeply felt compositions.
Trained at the Academy of Music in Katowice and influenced by collaborations with greats such as Janusz Muniak, she developed her own artistic signature early on.
With several album releases—including her own works such as “Hope”—and numerous international collaborations, Damięcka moves between mainstream and free jazz. Particularly noteworthy is her ability to combine singing and piano playing at the highest level.
For this project, she has teamed up with two outstanding representatives of the Berlin jazz scene:
Brazilian bassist Thiago Duarte and drummer Marc Michel are representatives of Berlin’s young, top-tier jazz scene, whose dynamic and sensitive playing lends the trio a special energy. Together, they create a sonic space that blends cultural influences and leaves room for spontaneous interaction.
A concert that transcends boundaries and brings jazz to life in all its diversity.
