"Good Night" Gathering for the 2026 Long Night of Museums

The lecture hall was built in 1790 as part of Berlin’s first veterinary school. The dome, painted by Bernhard Rode, arches over the singers. His frescoes depict the relationships between humans and animals, between care and control, and between tranquility and vigilance.

During the Long Night of Museums, the audience gathers beneath these images to accompany the building and its creatures to sleep together.

The musical program follows the transition from evening into night. Renaissance madrigals, lullabies, and polyphonic chants from various musical traditions intertwine with moments of silence and shared listening. Gradually, a collective soundscape emerges that grows quieter, bids farewell to the day, and accompanies the historic lecture hall into the night. The extraordinary acoustics transform the space itself into a resonating body.

The evening features the Sono97 Chamber Choir and Bibliotheca Musica under the direction of Sergi Gili Solé, the Todas las Voces Choir under the direction of Byron Carrasco, and Johanne Braun with a vocal ensemble assembled specifically for this evening, comprising participants from her summer workshop and singers from the Schöneberg women’s choir Akazien-Grazien. Together, they weave together different languages, musical traditions, and voices into a shared composition.

The Good Night Assembly was developed by curator Paz Ponce in collaboration with artist, facilitator, and voice practitioner Agnieszka Bulacik.

The event is part of the audio guide project *Das (Zu-)hörende Theater*, which is developing new forms of collective listening and remembrance on Campus North. The Good Night Assembly will be documented in sound and image; portions of the recordings may be used in the audio guide as well as in the project documentation.
