We meet in Kleist Park, where we will discuss the historical connections between botanical gardens and the slave trade in the 16th century, as well as the intersections with colonialism in the so-called Golden Age of America and Europe.

Schöneberg is a Berlin neighborhood best known for its Art Nouveau buildings, lively markets, and multicultural vibe. But beneath the surface lies a lesser-known history: traces of Germany’s colonial past are embedded in its streets, monuments, and architecture.

This guided decolonial walking tour reveals how colonial power structures remain visible in the city’s public spaces – often unnoticed, but still impactful.

Participants will explore street names, memorials, and historical sites that speak to Berlin’s colonial entanglements, while also learning about local activists and initiatives that are confronting this legacy today.
The tour centers marginalized perspectives, reclaims overlooked narratives, and invites participants to critically engage with the past and its relevance to contemporary social justice.

A thought-provoking and eye-opening walk that offers a fresh view of Schöneberg.
