“On the way, I realized that we were going to be shot…” – Keynote speeches and panel discussion

About half of the victims were from Hungary. The massacre was unprecedented in its scale at the time and is considered today, 85 years later, a significant milestone on the path to the systematic murder of European Jews. Photographs never before shown to the public offer new perspectives on the first months of the German occupation in Ukraine and the events that accompanied the onset of the mass murder of the Jews.

This event is part of the supporting program for the exhibition “1941 June Letters: Unread Field Mail from Kamianets-Podilskyi,” which is on view at the Karlshorst Museum.

The quote “On the way, I realized that we were going to be shot…” comes from Klara Moskal, a 17-year-old Jewish girl who survived the mass shootings in her hometown of Kamenez-Podolsk only by sheer luck.
