LIMBO
Consumption and self-consumption as metaphors: from yearning, almost allegorical eating to bloodthirsty devouring, being consumed, and ultimately self-sacrifice as grim catharsis.
The image of the singer accompanying herself on the piano, as the most intimate, self-focused expression, describes limbo—the state of suspension into which the numerous social and political upheavals of recent years have plunged us.
The interplay of closeness and distance, loneliness and global context, fear and hope reflects not only the personal situation of the Ukrainian artist but also the isolation of the resistance fighter in her prison cell: LIMBO is dedicated to her Belarusian colleague and friend Maria Kalesnikava, who was recently sentenced to 11 years in prison. The theme of this irrational state of suspension thus acquires a dramatic, very real dimension.
