Torsten Harmsen, born in 1961, trained as a typesetter and studied journalism. Since 1988, he has worked as an editor at the Berliner Zeitung, most recently in the arts and culture section and the science department.

In his weekly columns in the Berliner Zeitung, he views the capital city from the perspective of a true Berliner. His books include "Neulich in Berlin" (Recently in Berlin), "Der Mond ist ein Berliner" (The Moon Is a Berliner), "Berlin brummt" (Berlin Is Buzzing), and, in 2025, "Nazi und Kommunist" (Nazi and Communist).
