The strength of Jewish women
A poetic evening in which the acclaimed performer and interpreter Sandra Kreisler and the renowned pianist Naoko Christ-Kato juxtapose rediscovered piano works by the Dutch composer Rosy Wertheim with poems by Jewish women poets.
Selma Merbaum, who died in the Holocaust at the age of 18; Tamar Radzyner, who survived several concentration camps; and the recently rediscovered Emma Kann, who managed to escape in time and, nearly blind, lived in several countries.
Three vastly different lives, yet all marked first by antisemitism, then by the everyday patriarchy that caused their works to be forgotten more quickly than those of male poets. Their poems capture the music presented in emotional and poignant words, forming a bridge to the present day. A present day in which everyone fears they will soon have to experience equally volatile times.
