Two books by RQ form the basis of this evening: Beckett was here (2006 Hoffmann und Campe, Hamburg) and Ich will lieber schweigen. Das Tagebuch eines Schauspielers 1945/46 und die Fragen seiner Tochter (2025 Kanon, Berlin).

The juxtaposition of these texts reveals two very different attitudes towards the Nazis – one before and one after the Second World War. Recorded in notebooks and pocket diaries by two young men, hidden in their coats. Two men who, in their own way, wrote cultural history.

Roswitha Quadflieg, born in Zurich, studied painting, graphic design, illustration and typography in Hamburg and worked from 1973 to 2003 as a book artist and publisher in her own publishing workshop, Raamin-Presse, in Schenefeld on the outskirts of Hamburg. Here she printed works of world literature with her own original graphics in limited editions. Awards, exhibitions, purchases worldwide. She has also been a writer since 1985, and exclusively so since 2003. She writes novels, plays and radio plays. Today she lives in Berlin.

Recent publications (selection): ‘Ich will lieber schweigen’, ‘Ein Mann seiner Zeit’, ‘Ihr Wart doch meine Feinde’, ‘Das kurze Leben des Giuseppe M.’, ‘Neun Monate. Über das Sterben meiner Mutter’.
