Book Launch: Author Anna Schultz explores the world of the graphic artist and illustrator, who was born 300 years ago.

Daniel Chodwiecki (1726–1801) is still known today for his detailed depictions of everyday life among the middle class of his time. He is also regarded as a pioneer of the Enlightenment in Berlin.

To mark the 300th anniversary of his birth on October 16, the Knoblauchhaus Museum will present a new book about the artist Daniel Chodwiecki that evening.

Born in Danzig (today Gdańsk, Poland), Chodowiecki moved to Frederick the Great’s Berlin at the age of 17. There, he soon became the most successful graphic artist of his generation. He was actively involved with the French community, fellow artists, and the Royal Academy of Arts. Anna Schultz has traced Chodowiecki’s life in the city, in archives, and in graphic art collections.
