Drawings and paintings by Wolfgang Domröse

Wolfgang Domröse presents drawings and paintings under the title ‘Mein lieber Schwan’ (My Dear Swan). The exhibition runs from 27 March to 30 April 2026 and provides an insight into the artist's current work.

Berlin-based artist Wolfgang Domröse studied art education and history at Humboldt University in Berlin from 1970 to 1974, under Wolfgang Frankenstein, among others. He then developed his artistic practice largely as a self-taught artist, focusing in particular on painting and drawing.

Domröse has been working as a freelance artist in the Berlin district of Adlershof since 1980. Even in the GDR, he was considered a distinguished artistic personality who deliberately refused to commit to a fixed style. Instead, he continuously expanded and changed his techniques and themes. From 1980 onwards, he turned increasingly to painting and made a lasting mark on his work.

Until 1990, Domröse was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR.

After German reunification, he worked as a book illustrator for Rowohlt Verlag (rororo), among others, and produced original graphic book editions in collaboration with the Berlin printing company Nessing. He also designed the covers of the cultural magazine Kursbuch over a long period of time.
