To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the great German-Jewish poet Mascha Kaléko, Etta Scollo and Eva Mattes, together with the Etta Scollo Trio, present the stage project "Nowhere Land"—an evening of music, poetry, and memory. Kaléko's subtle melancholy, her humor, and her linguistic clarity will be made audible and tangible anew.

Etta Scollo Trio - with Eva Mattes: Nowhere Land 2026

Mascha Kaléko (1907–1975) was the voice of a generation. She became famous in the Berlin coffeehouses of the 1930s with her lyrical shorthand notebook. Her poems tell of big-city life, exile, uprooting, and the longing for home—themes that resonate even today. "Wherever I travel, I go to Nowhere Land"—this line gives the evening its title.

Etta Scollo, known for her poetic style that blends chanson, world music, and classical music, creates an intense soundscape together with Susanne Paul (cello) and Tara Bouman (clarinet), where word and music are intricately intertwined.

The multi-award-winning musician has a remarkable ability to musically explore literature without diminishing its originality. Eva Mattes lends the poems depth, warmth, and subtle irony with her distinctive voice. Her extensive experience in theater and film—including her role as a prominent detective in the popular German crime series "Tatort"—brings a unique intensity to the stage.

The result is a rich and moving evening exploring language, memory, and identity—poetic, political, and highly topical.
