What makes people who they are? Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling,” Laurie Cannac and Andy Scott Ngoua explore transformation, exclusion, and self-discovery.

In a poetic fusion of puppetry, dance, and visual vernacular, puppets, projections, a transformable stage, and live music create dreamlike images that navigate between doubt, longing, and new beginnings. “La Langue des Cygnes / The Language of Swans” emerged from a collaboration between deaf and hearing artists.

The script was developed in French Sign Language, which here unfolds its poetic quality and expressive richness. Through the projected performance of the deaf performer Karine Feuillebois and integrated into the choreographed physical expression, she creates a theatrical language that is equally accessible to both deaf and hearing audience members.
