“Overhage loves Germany; the rest can go to hell. Charlotte knows that politics serves only to make the rich even richer. Thieme has nothing against Muslims; he just doesn’t want them in Germany.”
Peter Truschner’s novel "Die Träumer" (nominated for the German Book Prize in 2007) was the first to address the return of right-wing extremism to the social mainstream, something which seemed wildly exaggerated to the press at the time. His new novel “Wie ein Messer” (Like a Knife) presents the foundations of the shift to the right as a polyphonic chorus: angry citizens of all kinds, filled with deep mistrust of democracy and hostile to the changes in a globalised world.
“Peter Truschner belongs to that dying breed of artists who must always go all out.” – FAZ
