When Jörg Widmann began his composition studies with Wolfgang Rihm in the late 1990s, Rihm quickly recognized his student's exceptional clarinet playing and subsequently dedicated several works to him.

In his concert series on the great clarinet quintets, Jörg Widmann now performs Rihm's Four Studies together with the Japanese Quartet Amabile, which previously performed Widmann's fourth and Beethoven's fifth string quartets.
