Jive is the rhythmic variant of swing. Names like Lionel Hampton and Louis Prima are good examples of jive, which led directly to rock ’n’ roll. Recently, Jive Park has expanded its repertoire to include several German-language songs. Here, Knef and Cicero are the most prominent names. And, of course, “Babylon Berlin” is also part of the setlist.

Jive Park consists of 12 handpicked musicians who produce the biggest possible sound with the smallest possible lineup. Half a big band that sounds like a whole one! Our exciting vocalist Julia Alsheimer and our rousing vocalist Boris Bläske bring exceptional energy and audience engagement to every performance; together with just a handful of musicians, they get every stage and every hall rocking. Another unique highlight is the “Swinging Christmas” program, with which Jive Park underscores its distinctiveness!

It was on July 6, 2008, in Rudolstadt, Thuringia—during Europe’s largest and most important folk and dance festival, the “TFF-Rudolstadt,” which focuses on swing dancing—that some of Berlin’s best and most passionate swing musicians met backstage and quickly agreed not to let this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity pass them by. They decided to enrich the swing scene with a new and special flavor through a new group and put together a first-class ensemble of 12 hand-picked Berlin musicians—a group that is unmatched in sound, lineup, and dedication—and which, since its first performance on February 17, 2009, for “Jazzradio Berlin” at the “Opern Palais” Unter den Linden, has made an excellent name for itself in a remarkably short time through dozens of concerts, primarily on the Berlin scene: Jive Park! Other milestones included appearances at the “Certamen Jazz Fest” in Palma de Mallorca, the “Street Life Jazz Festival” in Leverkusen, the world-famous “Jazz Rally” in Düsseldorf, the rbb program “zibb,” as well as countless performances in and around Berlin—always a delight for swing dancers. Meanwhile, two additional highlights are our exciting singer Julia Alsheimer and our rousing singer Boris Bläske, who bring every venue and every stage to a fever pitch.
