Concert followed by a jam session
The Plejaden Quartet plays excerpts from the Plejaden Suite: Driving grooves, colorful harmonies, and sensitive melodic passages characterize the Plejaden Suite, a composition by Berlin-based Austrian trumpeter and flugelhornist Paul Schwingenschlögl.
The programmatic work, commissioned by Viennese musician and producer Ronnie Rocket, is based on the constellation of the Pleiades and the legends of Greek mythology surrounding the stars.
Each of the nine movements is dedicated to one of the stars, and behind each star is a mythical figure, mostly female, who is attributed with a specific character and destiny.
Schwingenschlögl draws on a wealth of knowledge and experience as a composer. He has worked with jazz greats from the USA and legendary jazz musicians from the GDR, with colleagues from blues, funk, and soul, but also with African, Indian, and Arab musicians. His enthusiasm for musical exploration of the new and unfamiliar permeates his development and his works.
