Whether with fine lines or expressive strokes, the works of Ukrainian artist Iryna Vorona (born 1987) capture with great emotional intensity the effects of Russia's war of aggression on the civilian population of Kyiv.
She creates impressive portraits in charcoal on paper that focus particularly on children, women and the elderly, thus becoming a visual diary of the inhumane effects of the conflict.
Based on personal experiences and encounters, the artist also addresses forced migration and adaptation to new environments.
Iryna Vorona's works bear witness to individual suffering, but also to solidarity, resilience and the hope for peace, thus sending a message of confidence.
The exhibition is taking place in connection with the fourth anniversary of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, which violates international law. It has been organised in cooperation with the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg.
