Reading with singing
A literary and musical reading. Three actors invite you to an evening that reveals a different side of Astrid Lindgren: in addition to world-famous characters such as Pippi Longstocking and Karlsson on the Roof, we encounter the political observer, diarist, and letter writer.
During World War II, Lindgren, then 25 years old, began keeping a war diary. Under the title later published as Mankind Has Lost Its Mind, she recorded her thoughts, hopes, and concerns about a world at war. These texts are supplemented by excerpts from letters and other documentary writings from her estate.
The reading relates these personal testimonies to passages from Lindgren's literary work. The result is a multi-voiced evening that brings the well-known children's book author to life as an attentive chronicler of her time.
The evening is complemented musically by five songs – from “I am Pippi Longstocking” to Blowin' in the Wind.
