Art, politics, and social justice—then and now
The Hess family's guest books are a unique testimony to cultural history, especially that of the interwar period.
Personal dedications immortalized greats from the worlds of art, politics, and culture, including Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, and Lyonel Feininger.
The conference presents this unique work and uses it as a starting point to shed light on the connections between the cultural avant-garde and political engagement. At the same time, it aims to raise awareness of the history of the Hess family and the role of the arts in the fight for social justice.
