“In Darkness” Album Release Concert & Art by Katsuhiko Matsubara
FRAMED BERLIN celebrates its 90th program with an extraordinary evening combining the long-standing musical partnership of Andreas Scholl and Edin Karamazov with the atmospheric, organic imagery of painter Katsuhiko Matsubara.
For over three decades, internationally acclaimed countertenor Andreas Scholl and master lutenist Edin Karamazov have cultivated a deep artistic friendship. For this concert, they turn to the music that has accompanied them since the beginning of their journey together, the timeless songs of John Dowland and traditional works that have carried them through their careers. In addition, Karamazov will perform selected solo pieces for lute, offering the audience a rare, intimate insight into his extraordinary skill.
At the same time, the evening will present Scholl's first purely analog album, whose special warmth and authenticity were captured by the Berlin label LowSwing Records. The audience will thus have the opportunity to experience sound in its most original form without filters, without screens, carried solely by voice, lute, and the reverberation of the room.
The concert will be accompanied by an exhibition by Berlin-based artist Katsuhiko Matsubara, who was born in Japan.
His multi-layered oil paintings, inspired by mythology, animism, and memories of his grandparents' garden in Tokyo, provide an impressive visual accent and form a powerful counterpart to the musical depth of the evening.
