A native of Tournai, Rogier van der Weyden (c. 1400–1464) worked as a court painter in Brussels, creating works for the wealthy bourgeoisie and the Burgundian court.

His works captivate viewers with their emotional depth and realistic details. The Berlin St. John Altarpiece, which is the focus of this tour, has also been described as a “silent sermon,” as Sabine Engel will explain.

A who’s who of art history awaits you in one of the most important museums of European painting from the 13th to the 18th century. The weekly tour focusing on individual artists offers you an entertaining and inspiring overview of the Gemäldegalerie’s collection.
