Guided tours offered by VHS City-West

In the magnificent rooms of Charlottenburg Palace, ceiling paintings, tapestries, paintings, porcelain, and furnishings, featuring paradisiacal garden landscapes, lush floral arrangements, and depictions of exotic plants, seasonal sequences, and orangery plants.

On four ninety-minute tours led by former palace director Rudolf G. Scharmann, these floral beauties from the Baroque era through the end of the 18th century are brought to life. Despite severe war damage in the 20th century, the Charlottenburg Palace Gardens offer an exemplary overview of the two major developments in 18th-century European garden design.

A tour of the gardens reveals the transformations from the French-influenced Baroque garden to the English landscape garden and on to the postwar design, all against the backdrop of current climate change.
