The Berlin Fietsenbörse kicks off the season at Winterfeldtplatz. The focus is on well-maintained used bikes for different budgets and purposes – from second bikes to everyday mobility solutions.

The range is complemented by vintage spare parts, components and accessories for repairs and upgrades.

Private sale: basement finds meet new owners

Many bicycles are actually too good to be left in the basement: well maintained, hardly used, but no longer suitable. Many people are currently switching to e-bikes. This is exactly where the Fietsenbörse comes in. In addition to professional dealers, private sellers can also drop off their bikes between 9 and 11 a.m., set a price and
then have the Fietsenbörse team offer and sell it at the market. For buyers, this is an opportunity to acquire a solid bicycle with history, without paying the original price.

Tinkerers, hobbyists, trade: refurbished bicycles, some restored, some as good as new

In addition to private offers, mechanics, restorers and dealers bring bikes to the market that have clearly been given time and expertise: cleanly overhauled, partially restored, sometimes almost as good as new. If you are looking for a quick and reliable solution, you will often find a pragmatic alternative here between new and ‘from the back garden’.

Purchasing advice and service on site

If you are unsure, you can get support: the market offers purchasing advice, information on frame size and intended use, as well as guidance on equipment, condition and price. This makes it easier to assess whether the bike is really suitable – and whether it is suitable as a daily means of transport or rather as a second bike for specific journeys.

Security and reliability: clear process, purchase contract, reliable suppliers

To ensure that buyers go home feeling good, Fietsenbörse relies on a transparent process. Sales are documented – including the purchase contract – and the range of products on offer is supplemented by reputable dealers. In addition, the event is held in coordination with the relevant authorities; the Berlin police are also involved in the security concept.

Recycling instead of buying new: second-hand as an urban mobility solution

Buying second-hand saves resources and makes mobility affordable. According to the Federal Statistical Office, around 78 per cent of households in Germany will have at least one bicycle by 2024. At the same time, there is a growing demand for second and third bikes – depending on everyday life, distance or use (e.g. racing bike, cargo bike, winter bike). However, many bikes are rarely used. Fietsenbörse brings supply and demand together – and thus strengthens the bicycle as the obvious means of transport for the city.

Parts exchange for vintage components: when repairs fail due to small parts

Anyone who rides older bikes knows the problem: a single missing part can render an otherwise good bike unusable. That's why the Fietsenbörse also offers used, well-preserved components – including sought-after parts from the 1980s and 1990s that are almost impossible to find new. This makes repairs, upcycling and the
preservation of high-quality classics easier.

Winterfeldtplatz: good transport links, lots of neighbourhoods around

Winterfeldtplatz is conveniently located, and there are plenty of cafés and restaurants around the market.
