Backtracked gained their first experience through a series of successful, sold-out tribute shows across Europe. During these shows, they performed jazz reinterpretations of hip-hop artists such as J Dilla, Missy Elliott, OutKast, and Erykah Badu. The trio behind DJ Sameed’s NTS Radio A Live Band presents a unique blend of fusion jazz reinterpretations and captivating original compositions. The trio is now making the exciting transition to channeling its creative energy into its own music.

• Debut EP “Alphabets”

The Berlin-based trio has just released its debut EP “Alphabets.” This six-track sonic journey draws inspiration from the trio’s Berlin surroundings, including their morning rides on the 104 bus line and the urban fabric itself. “Alphabets” possesses an edgy and angular quality that mirrors the brutalist building housing the trio’s studio.

MUSICAL STYLE

In addition to inspiration from their urban surroundings, the trio’s experiences with homages to classic artists have played a significant role in shaping Backtracked’s music. They also draw inspiration from contemporary acts such as Butcher Brown, Kiefer, and Big Yuki, as well as from Berlin’s thriving music scene, featuring artists like Yoofee, move 78, and Abase. Backtracked is currently collaborating with Robert Owens both in the studio and on stage, where they delve deep into the realm of house music.

Their instrumental and collaborative live performances are powerful, danceable, and high-energy. They are characterized by abundant improvisation and a dynamic live sound that captivates the audience and gets them dancing.

Reception of the EP

In the months following the EP’s release, three tracks were featured on BBC6 Music’s Focus Beats and Lucas Benjamin’s Tip44 playlist. The EP was also premiered by Twisted Soul Music with the track “Reflective Song.” Reviews also appeared in Wordplay Magazine and on Melting Pot Music.
