Lutz Schumacher’s viola concerto is a contemporary yet entirely tonal work of great emotional expressiveness—partly inspired by film music.
At a time when most new compositions are atonal or experimental in nature, the world premiere of such a work is a true rarity. It finally offers the viola—an instrument rarely heard in a solo role—a grand symphonic stage. For violists, string players, and lovers of this warm-sounding instrument, this is a special event.
