Trickster Orchestra / Joolaee Trio / /kry / Li-Chin Li

The TransTraditionale—Berlin’s new music festival celebrating the global present—kicks off its first day with a special musical encounter: Taiwanese sheng virtuoso Li-Chin Li has invited musicians representing a wide variety of global styles to join her in a studio setting for a collaborative sonic experiment.

Following this, the TransTraditionale will be officially opened. Across the waters of the Spree, the first sounds flow toward the Radialsystem, which is gradually filled with a multitude of sounds and musical traditions. With this moment of “arrival,” the building transforms into a resonant space where the most virtuosic and exciting soloists, composers, and ensembles of post-migrant contemporary music come together for three days.

In its “showcase,” the Joolaee Trio weaves together Persian and European musical traditions, fusing them into a contemporary, distinctive musical language.

The highlight of the first day of the festival is the world premiere of the piece “Runashimi (mothertongue)” by composer inti figgis-vizueta, featuring the Trickster Orchestra and artistic festival director Cymin Samawatie.

The piece relates historical musical forms and experimental playing styles to trans and indigenous futures. To conclude the day, the Vienna-based jazz-rock trio /kry will open the “Orbits” series. In an energetic set, the trio performs at the intersection of stylistic freedom, captivating improvisation, and electronic sound design.
