When the Parisian composer Lili Boulanger set Psalm 130, “Du fond de l’abîme,” to music in a rich, lyrical, and sombre style, she already knew that her life—overshadowed by serious illness but wholly devoted to music—would not be a long one.
Gabriel Fauré, who had recognized Lili Boulanger’s extraordinary ear and talent early on, sought in his Requiem, Op. 48, to portray death as peaceful and comforting.
With Francis Poulenc’s expressive Organ Concerto in G minor, the renowned Latvian organist Iveta Apkalna unleashes the radiant sonic power of the organ at the Konzerthaus Berlin.
