Public Tour (in German)

A special edition of the “Religion and Ritual” tour focuses on Shavuot, the Jewish harvest festival—or, literally, “the Festival of Weeks”—which will be celebrated on May 22 and 23, 2026.

It also explores the Torah, Judaism’s Holy Scripture. From an early age, children around the world learn the Hebrew script so they can read the Torah. Visitors learn more about the significance of the Holy Scripture for Jews today and its interpretation. A sound map of the world brings to life the Jewish languages that have developed in the Diaspora.

In the installation Why Follow the Law, Jews discuss their personal approach to religious commandments. Objects and everyday items illustrate Jewish practices such as dietary laws (kashrut) or the commandment of charity (tzedakah). A flamenco dress, a sewing pillow, and a crown offer insights into the diversity within Judaism.
