On August 13, the rooftop terrace of the THF TOWER will become a space for queer history and empowerment. Kuku Schrapnell will read from *Gender Punks*. In addition to historical insights and personal reflections, you can look forward to an accompanying DJ set that will perfectly set the mood for a summer night on the rooftop terrace.

Gender—what is it, anyway? In “Gender Punks: On Trans Pioneers and the Art of Living in Resistance,” Kuku Schrapnell traces the lives of historical trans and intersex figures from the 17th to the 20th century, demonstrating that throughout history there have always been people who defied societal expectations and institutional oppression.
In an entertaining and sensitive manner, Kuku Schrapnell recounts the lives of queer icons such as Romaine-la-Prophétesse, Lucy Hicks Anderson, Danshō Okiyo, the STAR collective, and K. M. Baer, while also candidly reflecting on personal experiences. For it is about nothing less than the question: How do we make this world—in which patriarchy and capitalism reinforce one another—a better place?
