Published last fall for young adults and adults and winner of multiple awards, the book by American author Tara Sullivan tells the moving story of 15-year-old Amadou. Together with his younger brother, he has been toiling for years without pay on a cocoa plantation in Côte d’Ivoire, under strict guard day and night.
Narrator Simone Scheuer will read from the book, followed by a discussion between Moritz Klein, director of Peter Hammer Verlag, and moderator Sonja Eismann about the book and its background.
Helena Jansen, coordinator for municipal development policy and fair trade in the district, will contextualize the event within the district’s activities and explain how Xhain contributes to human rights in supply chains.
