This concert and lecture is a commemorative event honoring Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn (1805–1847), an exceptionally gifted composer whose public presence—despite having received the same education as her brother Felix—was limited by the gender-specific expectations of her time, within a social context further shaped by the tensions surrounding Jewish assimilation in 19th-century Prussia.

Presenting Fanny’s work in Berlin today marks a symbolic return to the city where she spent most of her life, while also aiming to break the historical silence surrounding this composer and others like her.

The program is complemented by the performance of a work by the Mexican composer Guadalupe Olmedo (ca. 1853–1889), who was trained at the National Conservatory of Music and in 1875 became the first Mexican woman to receive the title of composer, thereby expanding the program’s cultural dialogue and historical perspective. The performance will be given by the Swiss-Brazilian pianist Monique Rasetti, a lecturer at the UNAM School of Music.
