Mixtape of an Eastern Girl is the debut novel by Berlin author and director Monika Groth. She reads from her story of growing up in the GDR: of prefabricated buildings, quiet rebellion and music as an existential aid to survival.

The life of Joni Müller is told like a mixtape of memories, songs and transitions – before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall. A personal East German biography about freedom, identity and the search for a place that feels like home.

Between prefabricated buildings, radio sounds and West German cassettes, music becomes a refuge and an inner compass.

  • 1st reading – 25 January 2026 – 7:30 p.m., Schokoladen Berlin Mitte
