Prominent visitor at the Schwartzsche Villa!
They are among the most important actors of German theatre: Katharina Marie Schubert and Wolfram Koch. Together, they take on one of the most multifaceted novels about #MeToo, abuse of power, and feminism — Virginie Despentes’ “Liebes Arschloch.”
Raw but not unforgiving, Despentes holds up a mirror to our society in her novel, creating—on behalf of the audience—a dialogue where opposing sides seem irreconcilable. Rebecca, an actress in her fifties and still doing quite well professionally. Oscar, forty-three, a writer struggling with his second novel. And Zoé, not yet thirty, a radical feminist and social media activist. These three—could they be more different? — encounter each other digitally after Oscar posts a disastrous Instagram message.
The result is a powerful epistolary novel for the 21st century that tackles all the key social issues of our time. Rebecca, Oscar, and Zoé are all scarred by life, filled with anger and resentment toward others—and themselves. Yet they must come to realize that this anger gets them nowhere, that understanding, tolerance, and even friendship can be learned—and are sometimes vital for survival.
Katharina Marie Schubert was a long-standing member of the ensemble at the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Deutsches Theater Berlin and regularly appears in film and television. Her acclaimed directorial debut Das Mädchen mit den goldenen Händen premiered in 2020.
Wolfram Koch performs regularly at Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Deutsches Theater Berlin, and Vienna’s Burgtheater, and until last year was well-known as a Frankfurt-based Tatort detective.
