Since July 2015, the Evangelical Cemetery Association of Berlin City Center has been presenting a permanent, sunset-oriented light installation by the renowned American light artist James Turrell (*1943) in the chapel of Dorotheenstadt Cemetery I.

James Turrell (born 1943) is one of the most important artists of our time.

He devotes his entire oeuvre to exploring the diverse manifestations of natural and artificial light. He pushes the boundaries of perception. In his light rooms, architecture appears dematerialised, relieved of its heaviness, and visitors experience the presence of pure light directly. Turell's work in the chapel of the Dorotheenstädtischer Friedhof cemetery is specially designed for sunset times.

The permanent installation is the only publicly accessible work of art by Turrell in Berlin and can only be viewed during sunset hours.

With an introductory lecture (German/English) from Friday to Sunday at sunset (start times vary)

• Duration: 1 hour (with a 25-minute introductory lecture)
• Admission: €10, tickets
• Information and contact: tickets@evfbs.de
• Doors open 30 minutes before the start of the event

The permanent installation is the only artwork by Turrell that is accessible to the public in Berlin; it can only be seen during sunset hours.
