Bach: Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord & Works by Handel, Biber, and C.P.E. Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach's sonatas for violin and obbligato harpsichord are among his chamber music masterpieces, yet they are often overshadowed by the well-known solo sonatas and partitas. Yet in these six works, Bach developed a previously unprecedented equality between violin and harpsichord.
"These are not showpieces like the partitas and solo sonatas," says Isabelle Faust. "The violin and the harpsichord must truly become one here."
Isabelle Faust and her long-time duo partner Kristian Bezuidenhout bring this close musical connection to life in an impressive way, placing Bach's sonatas in a fascinating dialogue with works by his predecessors and contemporaries in the Pierre Boulez Hall.
