Far from the hustle and bustle of the music world, Joseph Haydn, as Kapellmeister at the Esterházy court, revived the symphony, developed the string quartet into a mature art form, and created numerous original works full of wit, drama, and emotion.

It wasn't until the end of his life that the composer would be celebrated elsewhere for this. But he himself had long been certain: "My language is understood the whole world."

This remains true today. Whether you have long loved his music or are just discovering it – sometimes profound and serious, sometimes humorous and playful, Haydn Day invites you to (re)discover the many facets of this versatile Viennese classic at various venues in and around the Konzerthaus Berlin.

"The music of Josef Haydn is an immeasurable treasure full of surprises and discoveries. The sheer abundance of original strokes of genius and unknown treasures defies imagination."
Joana Mallwitz
