Maike Weißpflug and Klaus Lederer in conversation
Following Donald Trump’s election as president in 2016, the English edition of Hannah Arendt’s *The Origins of Totalitarianism* (1951) became a bestseller in the US.
Some people turned to this book in an attempt to better understand the resurgence of authoritarianism. But how can a 20th-century thinker help us to understand the present and act wisely in politics during our fundamental social crisis?
In conversation with Maike Weißpflug, herself a political theorist and author of two books on Arendt, Klaus Lederer explores ways of re-reading Hannah Arendt’s work in today’s world. Engaging with Hannah Arendt reveals a fascinating personality whose sharp thinking, honed by the contradictions of her era, is geared towards empowering political action. And that is needed now more than ever.
“Hannah Arendt – 100 Pages” by Maike Weißpflug, as well as original texts by Hannah Arendt, published by Reclam Verlag, will be available for purchase at the venue.
The event is a collaboration between the Münzenberg Forum and Progressive Linke e.V.
Admission is free. Due to limited seating, please register at https://pretix.eu/Muenzenberg/hannah-arendt/
