"I didn't have time to finish writing..." This is how Selma Merbaum's only surviving collection of poems, *Blütenlese*, ends. At just 18 years old, the Jewish woman died of typhus in 1942 at the German forced-labor camp Michailowka in Ukraine. She left behind a body of work consisting of 57 poems, which are now considered part of world literature.

Albrecht Gündel-vom Hofe has set Selma Merbaum’s texts to new music and arranged them for soprano and jazz ensemble.

The poems set to music will be performed by soprano and Jewish cantor Aviv Weinberg and the Z'lil schel Bet Haskala Ensemble.

The concert featuring Selma Merbaum’s poems will take place on April 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at St. Nikolai Church (Reformationsplatz, 13597 Berlin-Spandau).

The concert was organized by the Christians and Jews Working Group in the Spandau Church District.

Admission is free. Donations are welcome.
