With loving memory, the BKA bids farewell to Gert Thumser (July 28, 1958 – January 16, 2026) – pianist, actor, arranger, and composer whose versatility and subtle, dark humor shaped the BKA Theater and Berlin's queer theater scene for decades.

He also frequently appeared in productions by the Ades Zabel Company at the BKA Theater.

Many remember him from television as well – including as a guest on the legendary "Conny Show," where his dream of becoming a TV star seemed within reach. Above all, however, he remains unforgettable as Paula Frantz-Kuhn: the tragicomic, gruff Franconian pianist who captured hearts with wit, power, and profound longing – for example, in his solo performance "God Forgives – Paula Never!"

Offstage, Gert was an outstanding composer: musically powerful yet delicate, with a cinematic scope – and for many years a congenial partner and the musical backbone of numerous productions, including those with Cora Frost.

This evening of remembrance honors the life, characters, and music of this exceptional artist.
