Ensuring Fair Practices in Raw Material Extraction

The focus is on a collection drive for old cell phones, smartphones, and tablets. The proceeds from recycling will benefit an INKOTA project in Sierra Leone. There, people in mining regions are supported in exercising their legitimate rights. A special focus is placed on empowering women, who often face particular challenges in the affected regions.

Anne Neumann, INKOTA’s policy analyst for natural resources and human rights, will provide insight into the work on the ground and the political context. Her presentation will address the consequences of mineral extraction for people in mining regions, the role of global supply chains, and how recycling can make a concrete contribution to greater justice.

The event thus offers an opportunity to learn about the origins of the raw materials in everyday electronic devices and to take action yourself at the same time. Anyone who still has old cell phones, smartphones, or tablets at home can bring them directly to the collection drive.
